สร้าง เมนูการ Boot USB drive ถ้า เมนบอร์ดไม่ สนับสนุนการ BOOT แบบ USB HDD
ถ้าอยากจะลองใช้ LINUX จาก handy drive แต่ เมนบอร์ดไม่สนับสนุน การ บูต จาก แฮนดี้ไดร์( USB Drive )
ไปพบเจอมาจาก http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html#bootmanager
Run from the Windows boot menu (2K, XP and VISTA)
Currently, this method works only with Windows on NTFS เขาบอกว่า ใช้ได้กับ partision แบบNTFS เท่านั้นน๊ะ
ขั้นแรก ไป Download the file plpgenbtldr-0.5.zip แล้วแตกไฟล์ออกมา
จะได้ไฟล์ plpbt.bin , plpgenbtldr.exe , และ plpinstc.com copy ไฟล์ทั้งหมดไปไว้ที่drive C:\
แล้วดับเบิ้ลคลิก plpgenbtldr.exe
จะพบว่ามีไฟล์และโฟลเดอร์ขึ้นมาใหม่อีก คือ โฟลเดอร scr ไฟล์ plpbt.bin,1raedme.txt , และ repport.txt
ส่วนนี้คือข้อความถ้ามีปัญหา รู้สึกว่าจะไม่ต้อง นำไฟล์ plpinstc.com ไปด้วย แต่ ผมทำไม่ผ่านน่ะ
copy plpbt.bin and plpgenbtldr.exe to your c:\ directory.
as administrator/with administrator rights open a command shell and change to c:\
then start plpgenbtldrthis program searches for the file c:\plpbt.bin. The filename must be lowercase.plpgenbtldr generates the file plpbtldr.bin.If there are no problems, then add the installer to the boot menu.If you get a file not found error, then download and run DiskView, use location of file, select c:\plpbt.bin, use the value at LCN and run plpgenbtldr lcn=[your value].

add the line below to your c:\boot.ini
ไปแก้ไขไฟล์ boot.ini ใน C:\ แล้วเพิ่มบรรทัดต่อไปนี้
c:\plpbtldr.bin="Start PLoP Boot Manager"
เมื่อรีสตาร์ท เริ่ม Boot จะมีเมนูให้เลือก ระหว่าง
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Start PLoP Boot Manager
แล้ว รีสตาร์ท เปิดขึ้นมาจะเห็น มีเมนูให้เลือก
เลือก Start PLoP BOOT Manager แล้ว ENTER
ถ้าไม่มีอะไรผิดพลาด จะมีข้อความ If you can read this, Press CTRL – ESC ก็ให้ กด CTRL และ ESC ตามเขาว่า
ถ้าไม่มีข้อความนี้ขึ้นก็ต้องไปแก้ไขหาจุดบกพร่องต่ออีก

แล้วจะเข้าสู่เมนูการเลือก boot
HDA = Harddisk 1,2,3,4>>>มีเมนูย่อย
HDB = Harddisk 1,2,3,4>>>มีเมนูย่อย
HDC = Harddisk 1,2,3,4>>>มีเมนูย่อย
HDD = Harddisk 1,2,3,4>>>มีเมนูย่อย
Floppy>>>มีเมนูย่อย
CDROM>>>มีเมนูย่อย
USB>>>มีเมนูย่อย
Setup>>>มีเมนูย่อย
About>>>มีเมนูย่อย
Shutdown

เมื่อกด Enter จะเข้าสู่เมนูย่อย ให้เลือกปรับแต่ง ตามชอบ ทดสอบดู
ส่วนนี้คือ
Hotkeys - Global keys
Cursor up/down
Move the bar
Enter
Choose selection
ESC
Close window
CTRL - ESC
Switch to textmode
CTRL - PAGE UP
Switch to higher screen resolution
CTRL - PAGE DOWN
Switch to lower screen resolution
z
Enable/Disable window zoom animation

ส่วนถ้าเป็น Windows vista เข้าว่าต้องทำแบบนี้
Windows VISTA
use the following commands
bcdedit /create /d "Start PLoP Boot Manager" /application bootsectorthis prints a long number with { }this long number is called idreplace the id with your number in the following commands
bcdedit /set {id} device boot
bcdedit /set {id} path \plpbtldr.bin
bcdedit /displayorder {id} /addlast
Now you should be able to start the PLoP Boot Manager from your Windows boot menu. If you get the error about fragmented file, then the easiest is to defrag your drive.
You can configure the file plpbt.bin with plpcfgbt.

ทดสอบกับ Pentium III 600 MHz SD ram 256 MHz
โปรแกรมที่ทดสอบ LINUX MINT 6, KAPERSKY antivirus rescue live cd (จาก USB drive)
สามารถ boot ได้ แต่ การ์ดจอคงไม่สนับสนุน เพราะเป็น onboard s3 prosavage
ทดลองกับ Note book Ben Q ของผมเอง ที่มี boot USB สนับสนุนอยู่แล้ว มัน บอกว่า หาไฟล์ hal.dll ใน system32 ไม่เจอ แต่ลองเข้าไปดูแล้วมันมีอยู่แล้ว เลยไม่สำเร็จ
